Our approach & what to expect

  • At Root & Rise Learning Center, we believe tutoring should be more than worksheets and quick academic fixes. When a student enrolls with us, they are gaining another member on their team, someone who genuinely cares about their growth, confidence, and well-being.

Unlike large tutoring companies, we take the time to build real relationships with our students and their families. We want to know our students as people. We ask about their soccer games, their new puppy, how they felt after being sick, or how their school week went. These connections matter, because students learn best when they feel seen, supported, and encouraged.

Our goal is not just to support a student’s academics, but to support the whole child. When helpful, we also communicate with a student’s classroom teacher to gain additional insight and ensure the support they receive at Root & Rise aligns with what they are learning in school.

While worksheets can sometimes play a role in learning, we believe students deserve experiences that go beyond what they could do alone or in a traditional classroom. Our sessions are designed to be interactive, hands-on, and meaningful.

    We focus on:
    • Building confidence and curiosity
    • Encouraging critical thinking and problem solving
    • Creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences
    • Making learning feel positive and empowering

At Root & Rise, students are not just completing work, they are growing as learners and as individuals.

We are proud to offer a learning environment where students can build strong roots and rise with confidence.

  • At Root & Rise Learning Center, tutoring sessions are intentionally structured to support both academic growth and student confidence. Each session follows a thoughtful routine that allows time for connection, skill-building, and engaging learning experiences.

    Check-In & Warm-Up Activity
We begin each session with a short check-in to reconnect with the student and see how their week has been going. This helps build strong relationships and creates a comfortable learning environment. Students then complete a brief warm-up activity designed to activate prior knowledge and get their brains ready to learn.

    Homework Support (If Requested)
If families request homework support, we will review assignments together and help students understand the material rather than simply completing the work for them. Our goal is to build independence and confidence so students can approach similar problems on their own in the future.

Mini Lesson: Current Concepts & Skills
Each session includes a short, focused mini lesson targeting a skill or concept the student is currently learning or needs additional support with. Instruction is tailored to each student’s individual needs and learning style.

    Game-Based or Hands-On Learning Activity
We believe learning should be engaging and meaningful. Sessions include a hands-on learning activity, strategy game, or interactive practice that helps reinforce the skill being taught. While worksheets can occasionally support learning, we prioritize activities that students could not simply complete on their own, making tutoring both effective and enjoyable.

By combining structured instruction with interactive learning, each session is designed to help students build skills, strengthen confidence, and leave feeling successful.

  • Our workshops are designed to be engaging, supportive, and meaningful learning experiences. Each session combines guided instruction, hands-on activities, and collaborative learning to help students build skills and confidence.

Students can expect a balance of mini lessons, interactive practice, discussion, and games that reinforce the concepts we are learning. While worksheets may occasionally be used to support instruction, our goal is to offer activities and experiences that students could not simply complete on their own or in a traditional classroom setting.

Workshops are intentionally kept small so that every student receives individual support while also benefiting from learning alongside their peers.
